The field engineer apprenticeship role in our team is of a technical in nature and mainly involves working with networking equipment such as switches, routers, firewalls and wireless access points.

What you will do in your working day
The role is largely customer site based across the UK (and into Europe) and activities are varied. The role would suit an individual who enjoys travelling, new technology exposure, has a can-do attitude and works well in a team.
Your duties and responsibilities in this role will consist of:
The role involves day-to-day responsibilities including:
- Attending urgent data network service affecting fault calls
- Conducting wireless networking surveys and new networking equipment installations (These would all be initially under supervision)
Regular travel across the UK to customer sites is expected and part of the role, and a car allowance or equivalent is included in the package.
The field service team-members also participate periodically in an out-of-hours rota (This would apply after a suitable bedding in period) (which includes an allowance), and report to our service desk during normal working hours. No specific times per day apply to any particular activity as these are all task-specific and most are reactive/intervention in nature. Overtime can be applicable to onsite out-of-hours work where customer charges are applied.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 24x7 rota based on-call support to customers as part of the field engineering team
- Be reactive to our internal service desk and assist them with supporting our customers both onsite and offsite
- Be responsible for your site visit reports including quality, accuracy and timeliness
- Working with the service desk manager, keep relevant technical and industry certifications up to date
- Be willing to participate in up skilling for new technologies and products we are required to support in the field
- Be prepared to travel to customer sites regularly
- Maintain your issued toolkit and assets to a high standard
- Maintain a high level of courtesy and professionalism with customers at all times
Qualifications:
- 5 GCSEs grades A*-C/9-4 or equivalent (including English Language and maths)
- Cisco CCT or CCNA. Where not already in place, the business will support the candidate in terms of achieving CCT minimum certification during probation periods
- Candidate must be fluent in English. Other language skills considered a plus
- Candidate must have a valid passport and UK permitted driving licence - due to network servicing and attending fault calls
- Candidate must pass local background and security checks

Successful completion of this apprenticeship gives you an accredited Level 4 Network Engineer qualification, with training in how to:
· Install, configure, and test appropriate network components or devices securely to well-defined specifications whether physical or virtual
· Optimise and maintain the performance of network systems or services in line with well-defined specification whether physical or virtual
· Investigate and problem solve to address technical performance issues in networks to return the network to successful operation and escalate as necessary
· Consider the impact and risks when implementing network changes in line with work activities and escalating as required by organisational policies
· Communicate technical network requirements effectively and professionally with a range of stakeholders ensuring stakeholder relationships are maintained
