Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

The Apprenticeship will start with an Induction into Leonardo. There will also be a Yeovil College Induction to ensure that apprenticeship requirements and expectations are fully established.

Placements will then commence onsite at Leonardo Helicopters (based on a 3 month period), rotating around different areas of the business.

During the final stages of the apprenticeship, the apprentice will move into a final placement to prepare for role post apprenticeship.  Around 12 months’ work will be collated to prepare the apprentice for an ‘End Point Assessment’ (or EPA).

Key Responsibility Areas

Placements covered may include; Quality Assurance, Procurement and Supply Chain, Programmes, Transmissions, UK Government Sales and Exports, HR and Operations. Within the various placements comes a variety of key responsibilities.

For example:

Transmissions - you will manage elements of a supplier; including the running and correlation of an order book, problem solving and the expediting of key parts from a vendor.

Procurement - you will be shadowing buyers, scanning documents and loading into SharePoint, Supplier visit & KPI reviews, purchasing parts and managing contracts.

Human Resources - you will log information, carry out reception duties, organise room bookings, arrange travel for the team, assist with the work experience process and Maximo requests.

Programmes - you will be shadowing, completing maintenance of departmental systems, collate amendments for issue, diary management, action logs, communications support, updating of departmental brochures and organisation charts.

During each three-month placement, you will be working with cutting-edge facilities, learning how the various business areas operate, discovering how projects are run, managed and delivered, and having opportunities to liaise with customers and suppliers. There may also be opportunity to travel between the Company’s UK and international sites.

Other requirements

For staff operating in more sensitive posts, there is an additional range of personnel security controls referred to as National Security Vetting (NSV).  As part of this process, a range of factors may be considered, including an individual's background, travel history, nationality, previous nationalities held and other information relevant to the vetting assessment.

To be eligible for National Security Vetting at SC level, applicants will generally be expected to have continuously resided in the UK for the previous five years. For DV clearance, this is typically ten years.  In some circumstances, time spent overseas may be accepted, with additional overseas checks.  Additional vetting requirements may apply upon appointment.
