Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
Forget sitting behind a desk all day! If you enjoy practical challenges, working with tools and learning new skills, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
As an Apprentice Industrial Door Engineer, you'll become part of a friendly, experienced engineering team, travelling to different customer sites and learning how to install, maintain and repair the industrial doors and shutters used by businesses across the country.
No two days will be the same! One day you could be helping install a huge industrial roller shutter, and the next you could be learning how to diagnose and repair a mechanical or electrical fault.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Get hands-on: Help experienced engineers install, service and repair industrial doors, roller shutters, fire shutters and high-speed doors
- Become a problem-solver: Learn how to identify faults, investigate problems and help get equipment working again
- Learn to use tools: Develop confidence using hand tools, power tools and specialist engineering equipment safely
- Understand how things work: Learn about mechanical and electrical components and how different door systems operate
- Build your technical skills: Learn to read engineering drawings, take measurements and follow technical instructions
- Explore new places: Travel to customer sites across the UK and experience different working environments
- Work as a team: Support experienced engineers, share ideas and build your confidence
- Put safety first: Learn essential health and safety skills and how to work safely in engineering environments
- Keep things organised: Help prepare equipment, maintain tidy work areas and complete basic job records
You'll receive plenty of guidance and support, gradually building the confidence and skills to take on more responsibility.
The best part? You don't need previous engineering experience! If you're motivated, enjoy practical work and are ready to learn, we'd love to hear from you.
