Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Social media and content

  • Plan, create, schedule and publish content across the charity’s social channels, including Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, growing reach and meaningful engagement rather than vanity metrics
  • Monitor and respond to comments and messages promptly and warmly in the charity’s tone of voice, escalating anything sensitive rather than responding in the moment
  • Visit the centres and shops regularly to capture photographs, short video and stories about animals, staff, volunteers and supporters
  • Edit photography and video to a good standard for each platform within brand guidelines, and build a reusable content library so campaigns are not created from nothing each time
  • Always obtain and record consent for images of people, and handle case stories with sensitivity and accuracy

Website, email and campaigns

  • Make routine updates to the website, including news, events, rehoming listings and campaign pages, and support search engine optimisation basics such as page titles, headings and alt text
  • Support the annual campaign calendar, including seasonal appeals, match funding campaigns, the lottery and raffle, animal sponsorship and legacy awareness
  • Support retail and e-commerce with product listings and shop level content, and support rehoming, fostering and volunteer recruitment with targeted promotion

Measurement, compliance and your apprenticeship

  • Track and report channel performance, including reach, engagement, click through and conversion, and produce a simple honest monthly report saying what worked, what did not and what you would change
  • Work within the Code of Fundraising Practice, the Advertising Standards Authority CAP codes, UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, following the charity’s guidance on consent, soft opt in and suppression
  • Complete off the job training, build a portfolio of evidence with your workplace mentor, attend progress reviews and prepare for end point assessment including the work based project
