Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
This Foundation Apprenticeship is a great opportunity for someone looking to start a career in manufacturing and engineering while learning valuable practical skills. Working alongside experienced technicians, you'll gain hands-on experience using specialist materials, advanced equipment, and modern manufacturing techniques to produce high-quality composite products.
You'll learn a variety of skills throughout the apprenticeship, including working with fibreglass and resin, operating CNC machinery, mould making, component finishing, and spray painting. Full training will be provided, helping you build confidence and develop skills that are highly valued within the industry.
Key tasks will include:
- Loading and unloading materials from CNC machine beds
- Learning mould-making and composite manufacturing techniques
- Assisting with hand lay-up and RTM moulding processes
- Trimming, grinding, gluing, and finishing composite components
- Preparing and spray painting products in a specialist spray booth
- Carrying out quality checks and recording production information
- Following health & safety procedures, including PPE and COSHH requirements
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and organised workshop
Alongside your day-to-day work, you'll complete your apprenticeship training and college requirements while being supported by a skilled and friendly team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys practical, hands-on work, is eager to learn new skills, and wants to build a long-term career with excellent progression opportunities.
