Summary

MAC Surfacing is a family-run surfacing contractor committed to developing future talent. As a Quantity Surveying Apprentice, you'll gain hands-on experience supporting live contracts through applications for payment, valuations, contract administration, cost forecasting, subcontract management, and commercial reporting. 

Wage

£16,640 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

You will be fully supported and trained on all of the following tasks:

  • Drafting applications for payment
  • Drafting Early Warning Notices (EWNs) and Compensation Events (CEs)
  • Reconciling payment certificates
  • Collating supporting evidence for valuations and claims
  • Attending commercial and contract meetings
  • Comparing quotes against Cost & Value Reports (CVRs) and payment certificates.
  • Reviewing subcontract orders
  • Producing forecast costs to complete
  • Reconciling planings produced versus sold versus rebated
  • Checking that priced planing works are charged correctly
  • Entry requirements: 64 UCAS points or equivalent level 3 qualification/apprenticeship (will consider 50 UCAS points)

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Health and Safety: Apply health and safety issues to all activities.
  • Sustainability: Demonstrate application of the principles of sustainability.
  • Construction Technology: Assist in the implementation of the most appropriate solutions for construction projects
  • Contracts: Be able to apply different types of contracts to different situations.
  • Procurement: Assist in the selection of and negotiation with specialist contractors for a construction project.
  • Cost control: Assist in the measurement and costing of construction works during a project.
  • Financial reporting: Assist in the preparation of financial reports, cash flow and cost forecasts for a construction project.
  • Administration: Assist in the collection, collation and storage of relevant data and its analysis.

Training schedule

Apprenticeships are delivered fully online. Development of the required knowledge, skills and behaviours happens through a combination of workplace training provided by the employer and 20% off-the job training provided by the University. This includes guided discussions and workshops, as well as independent learning and reading.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 9-4/A*-C (or L2 equivalent))
  • Maths (grade 9-4/A*-C (or L2 equivalent))

Level 3 or equivalent to 64 UCAS points in:

Level 3 Qualification/Apprenticeship (grade Level 3)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
