Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Learning MIG, TIG and MMA welding techniques under the guidance of experienced fabricators 
  • Welding, fabrication and manufacture of components, including occasional on-site work 
  • Reading and working from drawings and cutting lists, then bringing them to life in the workshop 
  • Cutting raw materials, drilling, punching and plasma cutting 
  • Preparing and finishing fabricated items to a high standard, making sure jobs are goods-out ready on time 
  • Forklift operation (training provided), plus collection and delivery of items from suppliers 
  • Weekly PUWER inspections on workshop equipment and monitoring stock of welding consumables

  • Four days a week, hands-on training in our workshop, led by our team of experienced operatives who together have 50+ years' experience 
  • One day a week at MidKent College working towards your formal qualification

Desirable qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English Language (grade 4/C)
  • Mathematics (grade 4/C)

BTEC in:

Engineering (grade Pass)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements

Any previous experience of the following would be ideal: welding (MIG, TIG or MMA), forklift driving. You will need to be able to get yourself to work. Although this role is workshop-based, a full, clean driving licence is ideal, as occasional travel to client sites across London and the South-East may be required.
