Summary

To attend on-site and assist with the installation, servicing and maintenance of Intruder Alarm systems, including Fire Alarms, Access control, Disabled alarms, CCTV systems and associated recording and monitoring equipment.

• Wage:

  £16,224 to £25,775.88, depending on your age

  National Minimum Wage

• Hours: Monday - Friday (Times to be confirmed).

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

1. To assist in all aspects of the installation of electrical and security systems to the requirements of the recognised national and international standards and codes of practice BS7671, BS5266, DD243, BS 5839 and PD6662 (EN 50131), and in compliance with the relevant NACOSS Codes of Practice, NICEIC standards, British Standards and Sefton MBC Codes of practice.

2. To install and maintain the electrical documentation and records required by the above standards and in compliance with the Sefton MBC Codes of practice and NICEIC standards and, NACOSS Codes of Practice.

3. To assist with the maintenance of Fire Alarm systems, Intruder Alarm systems, CCTV, Door Access and Disabled Alarms to the requirements of the recognised national standards and codes of practice.

4. To drive Security tracked vehicles (Subject to age restriction).

5. Participate in effective employee relations and undertake appropriate Departmental Training Courses to improve effectiveness in tasks set. Will be required to attend college at the designated times.

6. Undertake such other work as may be determined by the Senior electrician from time to time, up to or at a level consistent with the principal duties and responsibilities of the job.

7. Applicants will be required to work from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.

What you'll learn

Course contents

• Comply with safety legislation, codes of practice, risk assessments, method statements, safe systems of work and apply control measures.
• Complete functionality tests of systems and components during commissioning systems.
• Apply and implement system design, planning and installations including additional components to existing systems.
• Carry out takeover procedure, diagnose and repair faults.
• Operate ICT equipment and systems to store, retrieve, manipulate, transmit or receive digital data and electronic information.
• Comply with environmental and sustainability, regulations and standards.
• Complete functionality tests of systems and components during handover of systems.
• Carries out risk assessments.
• Communicate with others verbally for example, internal and external customers, colleagues, and managers using sector specific terminology.
• Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, as part of a team. Consult and engage with occupants or others who are or could be affected by work (for example vulnerable, older, and disabled people) and respond appropriately.
• Communicate with internal and external stakeholders using sector specific terminology through written means.
• Plan and install systems cabling.
• Carry out maintenance activities on fire detection and alarm systems and their components.
• Carry out maintenance activities on intrusion alarm, access control, video surveillance (CCTV) and their components.

Training schedule

Fire Emergency and Security Systems Technician (Level 3).

Training will be delivered on-site and 1 day per week college release.

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

• English (grade 4 and above)
• Maths (grade 4 and above)
