Wage

£12,480 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

In addition to the advertised salary, employees are entitled to 4 weeks' annual leave plus bank holidays (pro rata where applicable) and membership of the NHS Pension Scheme. Full training and support is provided throughout the apprenticeship.

What you'll do at work

As an Apprentice Patient Advisor, you will be the first point of contact for our patients, providing a welcoming, professional and supportive service. You will develop skills in communication, administration, healthcare systems and patient care while learning from experienced members of our team.

  • Answer telephone calls and deal with patient enquiries
  • Book and manage appointments using our clinical systems

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Skilled in the use of multiple IT packages and systems relevant to the organisation in order to: write letters or emails, create proposals, perform financial processes, record and analyse data. Examples include MS Office or equivalent packages. Able to choose the most appropriate IT solution to suit the business problem. Able to update and review databases, record information and produce data analysis where required.
  • Produces accurate records and documents including: emails, letters, files, payments, reports and proposals. Makes recommendations for improvements and present solutions to management. Drafts correspondence, writes reports and able to review others' work. Maintains records and files, handles confidential information in compliance with the organisation's procedures. Coaches others in the processes required to complete these tasks.
  • Exercises proactivity and good judgement. Makes effective decisions based on sound reasoning and is able to deal with challenges in a mature way. Seeks advice of more experienced team members when appropriate.
  • Builds and maintains positive relationships within their own team and across the organisation. Demonstrates ability to influence and challenge appropriately. Becomes a role model to peers and team members, developing coaching skills as they gain area knowledge.
  • Demonstrates good communication skills, whether face-to-face, on the telephone, in writing or on digital platforms. Uses the most appropriate channels to communicate effectively. Demonstrates agility and confidence in communications, carrying authority appropriately. Understands and applies social media solutions appropriately. Answers questions from inside and outside of the organisation, representing the organisation or department.
  • Completes tasks to a high standard. Demonstrates the necessary level of expertise required to complete tasks and applies themself to continuously improve their work. Is able to review processes autonomously and make suggestions for improvements. Shares administrative best-practice across the organisation e.g. coaches others to perform tasks correctly. Applies problem-solving skills to resolve challenging or complex complaints and is a key point of contact for addressing issues.
  • Takes responsibility for initiating and completing tasks, manages priorities and time in order to successfully meet deadlines. Positively manages the expectations of colleagues at all levels and sets a positive example for others in the workplace. Makes suggestions for improvements to working practice, showing understanding of implications beyond the immediate environment (e.g. impact on clients, suppliers, other parts of the organisation). Manages resources e.g. equipment or facilities. Organises meetings and events, takes minutes during meetings and creates action logs as appropriate.   • Uses relevant project management principles and tools to scope, plan, monitor and report. Plans required resources to successfully deliver projects. Undertakes and leads projects as and when required.

Training schedule

The apprentice will receive a combination of on-the-job training at Latchford Medical Centre and off-the-job learning through Warrington Vale College.

At the practice, you will gain hands-on experience working alongside our experienced team, developing skills in patient communication, appointment systems, administration, confidentiality, NHS processes and providing excellent patient service. You will be supported through regular supervision, coaching and feedback to help you build confidence and knowledge.

You will also attend Warrington Vale College as part of your apprenticeship programme, where you will complete structured learning, develop your understanding of healthcare administration and work towards achieving your recognised apprenticeship qualification.

More training information

The apprentice will complete the Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship through Warrington & Vale Royal College, combining workplace learning with structured off-the-job training.

The apprenticeship will be delivered through a blended approach, including workplace observations, tutorials, online learning, workshops, assignments and regular reviews with the college assessor. The apprentice will have an individual learning plan agreed between themselves, Latchford Medical Centre and Warrington & Vale Royal College to support their progress throughout the programme.

The apprentice will receive regular support from both their workplace mentor and college tutor, with progress reviewed throughout the apprenticeship before completing the end-point assessment. The programme is designed to be completed over approximately 21 months.

Candidates shortlisted for interview will be asked to prepare a short presentation about themselves and explain why they would like to undertake this apprenticeship and work at Latchford Medical Centre.

As this is a patient-facing role, applicants must be comfortable communicating with patients, colleagues and healthcare professionals in a professional manner.

Employment will be subject to satisfactory references and completion of the practice's recruitment checks.

The successful applicant will be required to undertake an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
