Summary
VolkerFitzpatrick are building the Didcot Science Bridge section of the Didcot and surrounding areas major infrastructure. Our quantity surveying apprentices will be an integral part of the site operations team, being responsible for the effective and efficient running of the site throughout the delivery of the project.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Assist the procurement process to maximise profit
- Ensure you are aware of your roles and responsibilities with particular reference to VolkerFitzpatrick’s commercial interests
- Ensure you effectively and appropriately communicate between members of staff where required
- Attend regular internal meetings held and ensure your actions are closed out quickly
- Ensure accurate records are kept of the subcontractor’s works
- Assist in the production of the back up to the monthly commercial reports produced in accordance with VolkerFitzpatrick Ltd’s Commercial policy
- Identify risks and bring them to the attention of your manager on an ongoing basis

- Assist with the archiving in accordance with VolkerFitzpatrick Ltd’s commercial policies
- Develop an understanding of the different programme types weekly, as-built, construction, target and contract
- Take responsibility for my own safety, and the safety of others who may be affected by my actions or non-actions
- Report any concerns regarding any aspect of health and safety to my line manager

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Health and Safety: Apply health and safety issues to all activities.

- Construction Technology: Assist in the implementation of the most appropriate solutions for construction projects
- Contracts: Be able to apply different types of contracts to different situations.
- Procurement: Assist in the selection of and negotiation with specialist contractors for a construction project.
- Cost control: Assist in the measurement and costing of construction works during a project.
- Financial reporting: Assist in the preparation of financial reports, cash flow and cost forecasts for a construction project.
- Administration: Assist in the collection, collation and storage of relevant data and its analysis.

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- English (grade 4 or above)
- Maths (grade 4 or above)

Other requirements
Must hold a valid driving licence and have access to a vehicle due to the location of our projects. Due to the project requirement, the Client requires candidates to live in the local area. The ‘local area’ is defined as any location falling within the boundary of Oxfordshire, plus a perimeter area of 10 miles into the counties that border Oxfordshire.
