Summary

Support delivery of efficient, flexible and professional repair, servicing and installation work, providing high-quality repairs and improving resident satisfaction. Develop skills and knowledge in property maintenance while completing an electrical apprenticeship, working to Electrical and HSE regulations and achieving full qualifications.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Maintain and monitor the supply, stock, and use of electrical trade materials, ensuring only quality materials are utilised for any repair work undertaken enhancing the standard level of properties and service The Hyde Group offers customers.
  • Exercise and promote the highest levels of duty, care, and safety within all working environments to minimise any exposure to risk for all Hyde Group employees, properties, and customers
    Communicate effectively to our customers in their homes and demonstrate excellent customer care skills.
  • Assist and learn, training alongside qualified electricians in the delivery of works such as rewires, remedial works, installation of smoke detectors, test and inspections and day-to-day responsive repairs and maintenance
  • Learn, understand, and adhere to all safe systems of work, health and safety requirements, policies, and risk management guidelines to always ensure safe working procedures. Always wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ensure any tools or machinery are operated following approved safety instructions/regulations. Report any accidents occurring or dangerous incidents and near misses promptly to both health & safety and other relevant managers.

  • Adhere with all apprenticeship provider requirements by attending all training, assessment, and study day releases.
  • Develop skills in creating comprehensive documents and projects to demonstrate strong administrative skills.
  • As part of your personal and professional development work with your line manager, mentor, and provider coach to map your progress during the apprenticeship and next career steps.
  • Ensure you maintain clear communication with your support network and other tradespeople. Attending regular 121 meetings with your line manager, coach, mentor, and college tutors to ensure attendance and on programme schedules are maintained.
  • Over the duration of the apprenticeship, adopt an enthusiastic attitude towards learning and developing new trade skills, demonstrating an ability to carry out electrical installations, industry standards and the fundamental principles of electricity, including circuits, voltage, current, resistance and power, boiler wiring and all aspects of electrical responsive works by the end of the apprenticeship.
  • Apply all knowledge, behaviours and skill attributes achieved during the apprenticeship to your role. Performing fault finding diagnosis, rectification procedures, installation decommissioning, commissioning processes.
  • Adopt the knowledge, of electrical principles, and competencies required to become a qualified electrical operative associated with a wide range of electrical systems and accredited industry trade organisations, including NICEIC, NAPIT, ELECSA, JIB Institute of Engineering and Technology, Electrical Industry Board for ECS and Building Safety Regulations.

  • Apprentices will be required to travel 4 days a week to our customers up to 1-hr 30 mins distance from Rochester.

  • Identify and use personal protective equipment (PPE) that should be used when undertaking electrical work in industrial, commercial, and residential environments.
  • Carry out work in a tidy and safe manner, including restoration of the work area on completion of work.
  • Apply relevant legislation; Building Regulations; industry guidance notes; relevant codes of practice, the requirements of the current edition of the Wiring Regulations (BS7671) and other relevant standards while carrying out work.
  • Understand and apply the practices and procedures for planning and preparing to maintain electrotechnical systems and equipment.
  • Apply and use necessary mathematical and scientific techniques, formulae, and calculations that underpin an electrician’s work.
  • Use a range of tools, materials, equipment, and components, including prefabricated, relevant to performing electrical work in industrial, commercial and residential environments.
  • Design, plan, set up, and install electrical and related electronic systems including terminating and connecting cables in electrical wiring systems, installations, and equipment in commercial, industrial, and residential installations.
  • Inspect and test new and where applicable existing electrical Installations in industrial, commercial and residential environments using test equipment.
  • Apply diagnostic and problem-solving techniques to identify, assess and resolve electrical faults in industrial, commercial and residential environments.

Training schedule

Apprenticeships include a mandatory 1-day a week away from working for specialist training at The Electrical Academy campus.  Gaining additional practical and theoretical skills.

By gaining an up-to-date City & Guild 5357 qualification, you will be recognised by the government, the Electrical Contractors’ Association, and the Joint Industry Board as a fully qualified electrician.

Recruitment requirements will include:

  • Passing a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
  • Able to provide contact details for suitable character references.
  • Able to provide documentation which confirms residency in the UK, Europe Switzerland, or Gibraltar for three years or more, and have proof of residency.
  • International candidates must, in addition, have a visa for the duration of the qualification plus one year, and proof of this will be required.
