Summary

The Digital Design Apprentice will support the design team in the administration, maintenance and development of digital project information across the business. The role provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in digital construction and design processes, while developing skills in various software platforms. 

Wage

£16,120 to £25,610.65, depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Digital Design Support:

  • Assist the Digital Design Coordinator with day-to-day digital design activities
  • Support the creation, organisation, and maintenance of digital project documentation
  • Help maintain drawing registers, revision logs, and project records.
  • Assist with the preparation and distribution of drawings and design information
  • Support the implementation of company digital standards and procedures

Software Administration:

  • Carry out administrative tasks within company software platforms, including: Simpro, Fieldwire, Document management systems
    Common Data Environments (CDEs)
  • Upload, organise, and maintain project documentation and records
  • Ensure project information is accurately entered and updated within company systems
  • Support users with basic software queries and escalate issues where required
  • Assist with reporting and data extraction from company software systems

CAD and BIM Development:

  • Learn and develop proficiency in AutoCAD for the production and amendment of technical drawings
  • Learn and develop proficiency in Revit for Building Information Modelling (BIM) projects
  • Assist in the creation and updating of 2D and 3D design models under supervision
  • Support the coordination of design information between departments
  • Help maintain CAD and BIM standards, templates, and libraries

Project Support:

  • Assist project teams with drawing issuance and document control activities
  • Support project setup within digital platforms
  • Monitor and track project information workflows
  • Assist in coordinating design information between engineering, project management, and installation teams
  • Attend project and departmental meetings as required

General Duties:

  • Maintain accurate records and filing systems
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Digital Design department
  • Participate in training and professional development activities
  • Comply with company quality, health & safety, and information security procedures
  • Undertake other reasonable duties as requested by management

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Able to identify risk activities and encourage all employees to demonstrate safety-conscious behaviours. Able to extract reports and images for tool-box talks and site- inductions using models and simulations
  • Assess, identify and record the environmental impact of project. Using models to demonstrate the reduction of waste to stakeholders
  • Assist in applying engineering principles by using established and emerging engineering technologies
  • Prepare simple commercial schedules and reports demonstrating digital workflows
  • Prepare initial design briefs, recommendations, programmes and detailed designs via a digital workflow considering design risks and responsibilities
  • Assist in the implementation of innovation, contributing to case studies that demonstrate value. Good general IT skills and their application
  • Create simple construction simulations and logistic planning using a digital workflow
  • Assess and report on quality standards of the projects via the digital environment
  • To identify where the current role ties in to the construction industry. Articulating the respective position in the construction sector and highlighting how it integrates with other sectors / disciplines
  • Support the development of stakeholder engagement and carry out a stakeholder presentation, demonstrating the appropriate presentation skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to move information from project delivery into commissioning and operation through involvement in the handover of digital assets

Desirable qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade Pass)
  • Maths (grade Pass)

  • Basic knowledge of CAD software is desirable
