Summary

Our Lady Star of the Sea based in Ellesmere Port is seeking an apprentice Teaching Assistant. To work with and supervise the physical/general care of individuals and groups of children under the direction of the teacher, providing general support to the teacher in the management of pupils in the classroom.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

As a Teaching Assistant Apprentice at Our Lady Star of the Sea, you will become an integral part of a supportive and welcoming team, dedicated to helping every child achieve their full potential. Working with children between 3-11 years old, a interest of working with children is essential. A full DBS check will be required before starting with the school.

Main Duties:

  • Supervise and provide particular support for pupils, including those with special needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities
  • Deal with the personal care and comfort of pupils as required in relation to welfare, health, hygiene, toileting, dressing, feeding, mobility and administering of medicines
  • Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment in accordance with lesson plans
  • In liaison with the teacher, utilise strategies to support pupils in achieving learning goals

You will support pupils in their learning and development across a range of classroom activities, helping them to build confidence, independence, and key skills in literacy, numeracy, and ICT. You will assist teachers in delivering engaging lessons, prepare and maintain learning resources, and contribute to creating a positive, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment.

The role will involve monitoring pupil progress where required, supporting safeguarding, health and safety, and equality policies, and promoting the wellbeing of all children. You will also assist with school trips, extracurricular activities, and wider school routines while working collaboratively as part of a dedicated school team.

Training schedule

Your full role and responsibilities will be set out by your employer. They will provide you with all of the on-the-job training you need to up-skill in your role, and your 20% off-the-job learning will be incorporated as part of your working day.

You will be working towards the Teaching Assistant Level 3 apprenticeship standard, which includes:

  • Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours
  • Teaching Assistant Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard
  • Functional skills in maths and English if required

This will be delivered by your dedicated training provider, Realise.

Desirable qualifications

GCSE in:

  • Mathematics (grade 4)
  • English Language (grade 4)
