About this employer
Founded in October 1891, the City of Newcastle Golf Club originally played on a course at the Town Moor. In 1907, the Club relocated to its current site at Grange Farm near the Three Mile Bridge in Gosforth. The course was originally designed by the great Harry Vardon, with significant enhancements made by the renowned Alister MacKenzie in 1913. MacKenzie, who later designed iconic courses such as Augusta National, Cypress Point, and Royal Melbourne, redesigned 12 of the 18 holes. His work on our 14th hole is notably featured in his seminal book, Golf Architecture, published in 1920. Today, the course retains much of Vardon’s and MacKenzie’s original vision and is celebrated as one of the finest in the North East, regularly hosting County and National events.
