Summary

Edge Building Products Ltd is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Apprentice Finance Assistant to join its close-knit finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to begin a career in finance while gaining valuable hands-on experience working towards an Accounts/Finance Assistant Apprenticeship Level 2.

Wage

£12,480 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

This is a key role which will help ensure the smooth day-to-day running of purchase ledger management, credit control support, and administrative operations. You will take ownership of maintaining the purchase ledger while supporting both internal teams and external customers and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

Purchase Ledger

  • Process supplier invoices accurately and in a timely manner
  • Reconcile supplier statements
  • Handle payment queries and discrepancies
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate financial record

Sales Ledger & Credit Control Cover

  • Provide cover for the Credit Controller when required
  • Raise and process customer invoices accurately and promptly
  • Issue and manage credit notes in line with company procedures
  • Support credit control activities, including chasing outstanding payments
  • Reconcile customer accounts and resolve account queries
  • Maintain accurate sales ledger record

Administration

  • Respond to emails in a professional and timely manner
  • Update and maintain internal systems and records
  • Support general finance team administration
  • Assist with ad-hoc reporting and data management tasks

Customer & Supplier Support

  • Resolve customer and supplier queries via phone and email
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships
  • Escalate issues where necessary

  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Other requirements

What you need to know:

  • There is onsite parking and lunch is provided daily at Edge Building Products
  • This is a 16-month apprenticeship, including end point assessment
  • This role is office based with some attendance at Chichester College as required
  • The role will start on successful recruitment, and the apprenticeship course will begin in September 2026
  • Applicants MUST BE resident in the UK for a minimum of 3 years prior to the start of learning and have work authorisation for the UK
  • Applicants WILL NOT BE eligible to apply if they have already achieved a qualification which is equal to or higher than the apprenticeship standard on offer
  • Applicants MUST BE resident in the area local to the apprenticeship opportunity or be prepared to relocate in time to start employment and study
  • Applicants MUST BE committed to the learning and stay to the end of the apprenticeship
  • Wage will depend on number of hours, age and experience in line with the Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage
