Summary

Join Keelby Primary Academy as a Teaching Assistant Apprentice, supporting our Year 2 class. You will help pupils with their learning and development, assist with classroom activities and work alongside experienced staff while completing a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Support the class with daily learning activities, helping pupils to engagepositively and make progress across the curriculum
  • Work alongside the class teacher to deliver learning activities and provide support to individuals and small groups of pupils
  • Assist pupils with reading, writing, phonics, mathematics and othercurriculum subjects, adapting support to meet individual needs
  • Help to prepare, organise and maintain learning resources, classroom equipment and displays to create an engaging learning environment
  • Encourage pupils to develop confidence, independence and positive attitudes towards learning
  • Support the teacher in monitoring pupil participation, progress and achievement, providing feedback where appropriate
  • Promote positive behaviour in line with school policies and help pupils develop social and emotional skills
  • Provide additional support to pupils who require extra assistance with their learning, communication or personal development
  • Assist with the supervision of pupils during classroom activities, breaktimes, lunchtimes, educational visits and school events as required
  • Support pupils with transitions throughout the school day and help maintain a safe, caring and inclusive environment
  • Help to ensure safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality and wellbeing procedures are followed at all times
  • Assist with routine administrative tasks such as photocopying, preparing learning materials, organising resources and maintaining records
  • Build positive working relationships with pupils, staff, parents/carers and other professionals to support the needs of children
  • Attend and actively participate in training sessions, and reviews as part of the Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship
  • Complete off-the-job training, assignments and coursework within agreed timescales, applying learning from the apprenticeship programme to the workplace
  • Maintain an apprenticeship portfolio and gather evidence of knowledge, skills and behaviours to support successful completion of the apprenticeship
  • Take responsibility for your own professional development, seeking feedback and learning from experienced colleagues to develop your skills and confidence within the role
  • Act as a positive role model for pupils, demonstrating the school's values of respect, fairness, collaboration and a love of learning

Training schedule

  •  Level 3 Teaching Assistant
  •  A bespoke programme of technical and vocational training
  •  Functional skills in maths and English *if applicable

The successful candidate will be assigned a dedicated work based trainer who will provide support and guidance throughout the course.

This Apprenticeship is delivered wholly in the workplace, the successful candidate will not need to attend any weekly sessions at the Grimsby Institute unless maths or English is required as part of the Apprenticeship

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4/C)
  • Maths (grade 4/C)
