Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Play a key role in warehouse operations, from unloading and storing goods to picking and preparing orders for shipment
  • Work closely with teams in both small hubs and fast-paced warehouses to keep operations running smoothly
  • Travelling to sites to collect and deliver materials
  • Attend meetings at different Thames Water locations and learn how teams collaborate
  • Support operations across multiple sites, gaining a variety of experience
  • Handle, pick, and pack materials safely and accurately to ensure perfect delivery
  • Build an understanding of Thames Water’s end-to-end supply chain, including systems, suppliers, and transport operations

  • Communicate with others verbally, for example internal and external customers, colleagues, and managers.
  • Communicate in writing with others, for example internal and external customers, colleagues and managers.
  • Load and unload products, considering the product that is to be moved and its current and planned destination.
  • Use tools and equipment to aid in product handling.
  • Use information technology and digital systems. Comply with GDPR and cyber security.
  • Locate and use operational information, electronic or paper based, required to fulfil contractual requirements.
  • Select, prepare, and use packaging materials that reduce waste and mitigate environmental impacts.
  • support under instruction scheduled and unscheduled stock taking activities relevant to the organisation and product.
  • Identify and escalate problems beyond own responsibility.
  • Follow procedures in line with environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and guidance. Segregate resources for reuse, recycling and disposal.
  • Follow equity, diversity and inclusion rules.
  • Carry out and record learning and development activities.

Training schedule

  • Knowledge, skills and behaviours as set out in the Supply Chain Warehouse Operative Level 2 Standard
  • You’ll train with TRS Training Limited, receiving monthly workplace visits from a trainer-assessor and ongoing off-site support to develop your skills and track your progress

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

Level 1 Maths and English or Functional Skills (grade FS L1- Pass, GCSE 1-3 or D-G)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements

  • A full UK driving licence and access to transport is fundamental to the role, as you’ll regularly travel between different sites as part of the programme
  • Being able to get around independently is key
  • Work towards completing Level 2 English and maths during the programme
  • Over 18 due to some of the forklift training required for Health and safety
