Summary

This role will support the delivery of our communication strategy; helping to reinforce two-way internal communication within UK & Ireland and across the UK campus (commercial and R&D operations) and supporting the delivery of impactful external communications which build and enhance the company’s reputation in the UK.

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

This role will primarily support:

  • Internal communications to ensure local and global messages from key business units i.e. Talent, IT, Facilities, commercial functions, research and development etc are shared in an engaging and timely way across the UK campus to ensure colleagues are kept up to date and involved with key business activities
  • Corporate communications to support delivery of the external communication strategy in order to build and enhance the company’s profile and reputation within the UK, including promoting our UK life science investment and cutting-edge discovery research, and amplifying global narratives in a UK-specific context, through all corporate communication channels including compliant digital content and media relations
  • Commercial and therapy area communications to support the communications strategies of core marketed products and established brands to drive enthusiasm and engagement for therapy area specific activities i.e. product launches, relevant world ‘days’, sharing patient experience etc. internally and externally

Job Responsibilities

  • Establish effective working relationships with relevant colleagues i.e. Talent, IT, Early Solutions to ensure a regular flow of communication material
  • Plan an annual calendar of UK communication, aligned with the global calendar, to ensure timely and regular communication activity
  • Support development of a campus-wide quarterly bulletin
  • Support maintenance, development and engagement with digital channels i.e. the intranet (Plaza), internal social media platform (Viva Engage), the UK website and social media channels
  • Support PVUs and other business units i.e. Talent, in delivering communication activities
  • Understand that all communications work must be compliant with the UK & Irish codes of practice

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Use IT systems and software to support campaigns.
  • Build stakeholder relationships and present to them in both formal and informal settings.
  • Support campaigns by undertaking tasks such as desk research, event co-ordination, and database management to ensure compliance with agreed service or performance levels.
  • Produce written content such as news releases, articles, social media content, bulletins, and blogs, that is accessible to meet the needs of different audiences and channels.
  • Able to adapt communication styles as appropriate to the audience.
  • Support the production of non-written content such as film production management, producing short user generated style content, live video streaming, social image creation, and infographic production.
  • Distribute content using social media channels.
  • Use qualitative and quantitative research to analyse and evaluate public relations and communications activities and present findings to project stakeholders.
  • Analyse and interpret complex subjects through different communication channels and identify areas for improvement.
  • Input to and review communications programmes and plans with a focus on environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles within their organisation's procedures.
  • Undertake risk assessment and provide information to support stakeholder planning and strategy.
  • Plan and deliver engagement activities for stakeholders, such as curating the content, supporting events, and collating feedback.
  • Proofread and edit communications materials such as news releases, graphics and video, and social media content.
  • Support team and colleague development through buddying or coaching.
  • Contribute to activities which focus on improving sustainability within their organisation's procedures.
  • Apply relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and ethical guidance where appropriate to their work.

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

5 GCSE's including Maths and English (grade 4/C or above)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
