Summary
Woodcroft Primary School are seeking an Apprentice LSA to support our children in all aspects of their education. Working closely with the class teacher, you will support both individuals and groups in all aspects of the curriculum, and as an apprentice, full training will be given.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Support for Pupils - work with individuals or groups of children, assist in ensuring pupils are kept on task, and complete activities set by teachers. Attend with behavioural and special needs in conjunction with the teacher
- Support for Teachers - help implement lesson plans, provide feedback to pupils without reference to the teacher. To take a small group of pupils as a small class for defined activities, e.g. reading, in the presence of a class teacher
- Support for Curriculum - contribute with the teacher to lesson contents and aims and to support and work with the teacher in testing and assessment and review progress of pupils against learning programmes
- Support for the School - carrying out specific specialist responsibility and supporting other staff in this area when required, including playtime supervision and the ability to detect signs of behavioural issues. In conjunction with the teacher, liaise with parents on pupil progress and implement curriculum policies
- Corporate and Statutory Initiatives - maintain an awareness of school, national and statutory policies and requirements and apply these in the workplace
The following training and induction will be given for the employee to become effective in the role:
- “Shadowing” an experienced LSA in school
- Knowledge of the school and its policies and systems
- Understanding of curriculum, particularly literacy and numeracy requirements
- Approach towards pupil discipline and behaviour
- Relationship between and respective responsibilities of teacher and LSA
- Professional relationships between staff and pupils
- Support from other LSAs
- Manual handling skills
- Developing health and safety knowledge
- Independent working, supported by a teacher, with groups of individual children

Training schedule
Attendance at college will be required on a weekly basis and may be needed during the school holidays. Time spent training will come under the working hours per week. Your Apprenticeship Liaison Officer will liaise with you to set up mutually convenient times for consultation and assessment visits at your place of work.
It is a Government requirement for you to spend 6 hours a week working towards your “off-the-job learning”. Off-the-job learning can consist of college attendance, coursework, project-related work, employer training, mentoring and coaching.

What does the programme include?
The Level 3 Teaching Assistant apprenticeship provides individuals with a sound knowledge base that can support them in undertaking further learning and development of their careers in youth work and related areas. These include:
- Advanced Level apprenticeship in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools
- Level 3 Award in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools
- Play work or youth work for those wishing to transfer to other areas working with children and young people
This pathway also offers the participant a doorway into the teaching profession, offering the chance to work in a variety of educational settings with children of all ages. The experience gained from this apprenticeship in the practical teaching environment is invaluable.
Learning and assessment
Apprentices will spend typically 18 months on-programme working towards the apprenticeship standard, with a minimum of six hours a week off-the-job training. Off-the-job can consist of college attendance, homework/coursework, project-related work, employer training, mentoring, and coaching. In addition, they will need to complete a portfolio of evidence to support the professional discussion.
The end-point assessment (EPA) must be completed within a 3 month period after the apprentice has met the EPA gateway requirements.
The EPA consists of two distinct assessment methods:
- Practical observation with questions and answers
- Professional discussion supported by a portfolio of evidence
Performance in the EPA will determine the apprenticeship grade of distinction, pass or fail.

GCSE in:
- English (grade 4/C/Functional Skills Level 2)
- Maths (grade 4/C/Functional Skills Level 2)
