Summary

We are looking to appoint a new apprentice HR Assistant to join us at our inclusive and passionate team at The Lowry Academy.  As part of the role, you will work towards your Level 3 CIPD for HR in Education. This will include monthly live online workshops with guided tasks, school-based application and a couple of in-person days.

Wage

£15,600 to £24,784.50, depending on your age

Aged 19-20 first year - £8.32 per hour

Aged 21 years and over first year - £10.73 per hour

Work

What you'll do at work

As part of the role your main duties will include:

  • Assisting with recruitment and onboarding, including preparing contracts and scheduling interviews
  • Maintaining and updating employee records, HR databases, and filing systems
  • Supporting HR administration, including staff queries and correspondence
  • Monitoring completion of mandatory training
  • Support with payroll on a monthly basis

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Service Delivery: Delivers excellent customer service on a range of HR queries and requirements, providing solutions, advice and support primarily to managers. Builds managers’ expertise in HR matters, improving their ability to handle repeated situations themselves where appropriate. Uses agreed systems and processes to deliver service to customers. Takes the initiative to meet agreed individual and team KPIs in line with company policy, values, standards. Plans and organises their work, often without direct supervision, to meet commitments and KPIs.
  • Problem Solving: Uses sound questioning and active listening skills to understand requirements and establish root causes before developing HR solutions. Takes ownership through to resolution, escalating complex situations as appropriate.
  • Communication & Interpersonal: Deals effectively with customers/colleagues, using sound interpersonal skills and communicating well through a range of media eg phone, face to face, email, internet. Adapts their style to their audience. Builds trust and sound relationships with customers. Handles conflict and sensitive HR situations professionally and confidentially.
  • Teamwork: Consistently supports colleagues /collaborates within the team and HR to achieve results. Builds/maintains strong working relationships with others in the team and across HR where necessary.
  • Process Improvement: Identifies opportunities to improve HR performance and service; acts on them within the authority of their role. Supports implementation of HR changes/projects with the business.
  • Managing HR Information: Maintains required HR records as part of services delivered. Prepares reports and management information from HR data, with interpretation as required.
  • Personal Development: Keeps up to date with business changes and HR legal/policy/process changes relevant to their role. Seeks feedback and acts on it to improve their performance and overall capability.

Training schedule

CIPD Level 3 HR Support in Education Apprenticeship delivered by United Apprenticeships.

The apprenticeship should typically take 13 months to complete, with the final assessment taking up to 12 weeks.

It will be delivered thorugh monthly live online workshops and a couple of in-person days that will give you the opportunity to build your confidence and learn alongside peers. You will also be required to complete tasks weekly as set by the tutor. These tasks will be consolidated through a portfolio of evidence.

There are six modules to complete:

  • HR and the Business
  • Talent and Resourcing
  • Performance and Reward
  • HR Data and Analytics
  • Employee Relations
  • HR Professional Skills

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade C/4)
  • Maths (grade C/4)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

After this apprenticeship

  • You will become CIPD Level 3 qualified in HR Support in Education
  • This opens pathways to roles such as HR Advisor, HR Officer, or HR Administrator
  • With experience, you could progress to Level 5 CIPD, specialise in recruitment, learning and development
