What you'll do at work
The Engineering Operative Apprentice role is designed to develop practical engineering and manufacturing skills across Solomon Commercials’ core production departments. The apprentice will rotate through multiple areas of the business, gaining hands-on experience in commercial vehicle bodywork, fabrication, assembly, finishing, electrics, and technical support, while building a strong foundation in engineering principles, quality, safety, and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities:
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and work instructions
- Using hand tools, tape measures, and basic measuring equipment
- Supporting assembly, fabrication, chassis, finishing and engineering activities
- Assisting with electrical and technical tasks where appropriate
- Following health, safety, and quality procedures at all times
- Attending college and completing apprenticeship coursework
General Responsibilities:
- Work as part of a team and support colleagues across departments
- Follow health, safety, and environmental procedures at all times
- Maintain a positive attitude to learning and development
- Attend college and complete all apprenticeship coursework and assessments
Skills & Knowledge Developed:
- Reading engineering drawings
- Understanding manufacturing and build processes
