Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Get stuck into toolbox talks and safety briefings
- Work on mail sorting machines, conveyor systems, and robotics
- Learn how to maintain, diagnose and fix automated systems
- Take part in cool projects – from design to digital design and 3D modelling
- Team up with experienced engineers and share ideas
- End the day with a quick review to plan for tomorrow

At college, you will learn:
- Electrical and mechanical engineering basics
- Health and safety statutory regulations and rules
- How to use PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers)
- How to locate and resolve complex mechanical / electrical faults

- As part of your apprenticeship, you will attend Manufacturing Technology Centre, Ansty Park, Pilot Way, Coventry CV7 9JU for the academic elements of your programme
- You will be expected to travel to college when required, and all travel costs from your work location to the college will be fully covered.
- In your first year, you will attend college in blocks of four weeks at a time, learning alongside your fellow apprentices and developing the core knowledge and skills you’ll need in your role. Outside of these study blocks, the remainder of your time will be spent in the workplace, gaining valuable hands‑on experience
- As you progress into years 2 and 3, the structure of these college blocks may change to support your development and apprenticeship requirements
- The exact pattern will be discussed and confirmed towards the end of your first year so you know what to expect
Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- English (grade C/4 or above (or equivalent))
- Maths (grade C/4 or above (or equivalent))
- Science (grade C/4 or above (or equivalent))
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
