Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
During your apprenticeship, you will develop practical skills and knowledge while contributing to work within the automotive sector. The programme helps you build core technical capabilities, broaden your understanding and strengthen essential behaviours such as teamwork and problem solving.
You will receive guidance from a JLR early careers cohort lead, the university team and your line manager throughout your programme.
You will work towards a BSc (Hons) degree in Digital and Technology Solutions developed with the University of Warwick. For further details about the degree course, please visit: Digital Technology Solutions.
Year 1–2
The programme is delivered through a mix of online learning, in‑person teaching and independent study each week. This structure enables you to apply learning from the University of Warwick to tasks within your role. You will study modules designed to build key knowledge, skills and behaviours, supported by regular progress reviews with tutors and your line manager.
Years 3–4
In years three and four you will study modules linked to your chosen discipline of Software Engineering. During your final year, you will complete a work‑based project as part of your End Point Assessment (EPA), using the skills and experience developed throughout the programme. After successfully completing your EPA, you will achieve a Level 6 apprenticeship.
Throughout your apprenticeship you may work within one of the following areas: Digital Platform or Vehicle Platform. You will be asked to express your preference during the application process.

Training schedule
DPP develops connected and efficient vehicles through digital engineering. The team works across systems design and the development of electronic hardware and software, including interior functions, infotainment, connectivity, off‑board processing and mobile app development.
Work covers a range of vehicle functions that rely on software, such as propulsion, energy management, suspension control, driver assistance features, infotainment and interior systems.
Tasks may include automation activities or contributing to digital infrastructure within teams that build environments for software development.
Tasks may also involve low‑level software work that relates to in‑vehicle computing performance, such as reviewing boot processes, processor load distribution and system behaviour.
The Vehicle Platform team supports systems linked to the customer experience, covering areas including Body Interiors, Body Exteriors, Body in White, Chassis, EDU, Powertrains and Accessories. The team applies engineering methods and technology integration to meet product requirements.
The team creates software used within and around the vehicle, using model‑based development, embedded coding and languages such as Python for software pipelines. Tasks include system interaction design, testing, calibration and validation across virtual rigs, vehicles and controlled test environments.
As a Software Apprentice, you will develop technical and engineering skills while contributing to software tasks that support JLR’s electrified products. You will use tools and engineering methods to assist with software and system development and will work with colleagues across different areas as you progress through the programme.
