Summary

We are looking for an Apprentice Public Relations and Communications Assistant to support the work of the Media and PR team in delivering impactful communications campaigns across Historic Royal Palaces sites.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

This will involve the creation and selling in of media materials, supporting the Press Officers and Media & PR Manager on major projects, supervision of filming and photography, and administrative duties to support the Press Office.

Whilst studying towards your apprenticeship you will also be:

  • Be a core member of the Press Office Team: triaging incoming media enquiries, arranging and supervising PR photography, supplying imagery for editorial use, providing ad-hoc support for Social Media Team during busy periods, raising and administering POs using the EFINancials system, with some work outside office hours as required
  • Create and deliver PR campaigns: With key focus on HRP’s busy events and public programme PR – producing and selling-in press materials (releases, factsheets, imagery etc.), working alongside colleagues in the Social Media Team to align messaging and maximise impact, strengthening relationships with local and regional media outlets
  • Work alongside the Press Officers and Media & PR Manager on key projects: supporting work on larger campaigns, to include annual exhibitions and major on-site events, royal and stakeholder visits
  • Supervise filming across the palaces: supporting team with the supervision of filming on site; to include large and small scale, and live broadcasts
  • Support the team with media operations: managing journalist and influencer visits, organising press days and previews, creating comprehensive press packs for visiting media
  • Share responsibility for Press Office admin, to include the management of media monitoring system and media contact database, uploading of press resources to HRP webpage and Digital Asset Management system, and media campaign evaluation

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Use IT systems and software to support campaigns.
  • Build stakeholder relationships and present to them in both formal and informal settings.
  • Support campaigns by undertaking tasks such as desk research, event co-ordination, and database management to ensure compliance with agreed service or performance levels.
  • Produce written content such as news releases, articles, social media content, bulletins, and blogs, that is accessible to meet the needs of different audiences and channels.
  • Able to adapt communication styles as appropriate to the audience.
  • Support the production of non-written content such as film production management, producing short user generated style content, live video streaming, social image creation, and infographic production.
  • Distribute content using social media channels.
  • Use qualitative and quantitative research to analyse and evaluate public relations and communications activities and present findings to project stakeholders.
  • Analyse and interpret complex subjects through different communication channels and identify areas for improvement.
  • Input to and review communications programmes and plans with a focus on environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles within their organisation's procedures.
  • Undertake risk assessment and provide information to support stakeholder planning and strategy.
  • Plan and deliver engagement activities for stakeholders, such as curating the content, supporting events, and collating feedback.
  • Proofread and edit communications materials such as news releases, graphics and video, and social media content.
  • Support team and colleague development through buddying or coaching.
  • Contribute to activities which focus on improving sustainability within their organisation's procedures.
  • Apply relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and ethical guidance where appropriate to their work.

GCSE in:
