We are global, structural steel engineering organisation with our Head Office in Bury and are looking for a Project Controls Apprentice. If you are looking to obtain a degree apprenticeship and enjoy the built environment; you are great with maths and enjoy working as part of a team, this could be the role for you.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Collaborate with project managers, quantity surveyors, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate project planning and execution
- Develop an understanding of planning and programming practices
- Assist in sequencing activities and estimating durations for programmes of work
- Gain proficiency in various planning software and platforms
- Understand planning's integration with project controls, risk management, estimating, and commercial functions
- Support monitoring, control, and progress reporting for ongoing projects
- Manage and report on project data effectively
- Analyse project progress, identify potential delays, and propose solutions to keep projects on track
- Prepare and present progress reports and schedule updates to management and clients

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Be able to set and review objectives, identify resources and their limitations and plan activities and work methods to ensure project completion on time.
- Be able to identify and manage risks of health, safety and welfare in line with legislation, hazards and safe systems of work.
- Be able to identify the standards required by clients and other stakeholders and implement effective procedures for managing, recording and improving quality.
- Be able to manage construction activities in a way that contributes to sustainable development and implements best practice.
- Be able to manage legal and contractual matters relating to the site and work within commercial and legal constraints to ensure effective project outcomes.
- Be able to investigate problems, causes and effects and determine solutions.
- Be able to identify, obtain and process information required to manage projects.
- Be able to manage risk and plan for its mitigation to minimise its impact.
- Be able to manage and appraise team members and specialist contractors, build teams, advise on development and resolve conflicts to ensure effective teamwork.
- Be able to identify areas for improvement, and implement innovative solutions.
- Be able to effectively manage and supervise specialist contractors and operatives during the construction phase.
- Be able to identify and rectify common defects in construction activities.
Training schedule
- Construction Site Management (degree) Level 6
- You will attend The University of Salford on a day-release basis, completing your degree over 5 years
- You will follow a learning plan in the workplace, supported by a mentor
Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- English (grade 6)
- Maths (grade 6)
- Science (grade 6)
BTEC in:
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
