Summary

We are looking for an highly organised and detail-focused Accountancy Apprentice to join our Accountancy Team. This role offers a great chance for career growth, allowing you to work towards the AAT Level 3 Accounting qualification while gaining practical experience in a supportive environment.

What you'll do at work

In the role of Accountancy Apprentice, here’s an example of what you’ll be doing to make an impact:

  • Update financial reports and maintain both manual and digital filing systems
  • Assist with the reconciliation of revenue and balance sheet accounts
  • Input data into financial systems and run reports to support colleagues and budget managers
  • Contribute to year-end accounting processes
  • Manage your own workload while supporting the financial team with various ad hoc administrative tasks
  • Gain exposure to a range of accounting activities, including budgeting and forecasting

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process journals to accurately record financial transactions in compliance with accounting standards
  • Check financial transactions to ensure they are recorded correctly and investigate any discrepancies
  • Perform reconciliations, such as matching accounts and resolving discrepancies between records
  • Ensure that all financial transactions align with relevant accounts and ledgers

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
  • Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
  • Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
  • Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
  • Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
  • Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
  • Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
  • Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
  • Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Training schedule

The Level 3 Assistant Accountant apprenticeship standard includes 6 AAT exams, in addition to the Synoptic Assessment as part of the End-Point Assessment (EPA) process. 
 
The knowledge units will be delivered at the EMA training hub in Derby, through day release. 
 
AAT Modules are as follows: 

  • Introduction to Bookkeeping (Level 2 Unit) 
  • Principles of Bookkeeping (Level 2 Unit) 
  • Management Accounting Techniques 
  • Financial Accounting: Preparing Financial Statements 
  • Business Awareness
  • Tax Processes for Business 

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

5 GCSEs including maths and english (grade 5/C)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
