Summary
VPI are seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented Assistant Accountant Apprentice. This role is ideal for someone starting their career in finance who is eager to learn, develop technical skills, and gain hands‑on experience. You will support with day‑to‑day operations, while working towards a recognised finance qualification.

On successful completion of the L3 you will be offered a progression onto L4 which will include a salary increase to £24,000 throughout the duration.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
Roles and responsibilities:
- Assist with daily cash management activities, including monitoring bank balances and cash positions
- Help maintain accurate records of cash movements, payments, and receipts
- Process and reconcile bank transactions across multiple accounts
- Set up daily and weekly payment runs for suppliers
- Support month‑end and year‑end processes, including journal preparation and balance sheet reconciliations
- Help maintain accurate financial records in line with company policies and audit requirements
- Contribute to the preparation of management reports and financial analysis
- Ensure all treasury and finance activities comply with internal controls and financial procedures
- Support audit requests and documentation gathering
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to data protection standards
- Develop a strong understanding of financial systems, treasury processes, and business operations

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
- Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
- Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
- Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
- Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
- Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
- Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
- Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
- Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
- Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Training schedule
- BPP will deliver this apprenticeship online within your working week
- You will have a dedicated assessor who will provide guidance and monitor progress throughout
- You will have access to an online portfolio to allow you to monitor your progress and log work completed
- Level 3 Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship standard
- Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT (unless exempt)
