Summary

As an Engineering Degree Apprentice you’ll be based out of our Bristol office, whilst travelling to sites across the region to see major engineering projects in action. You’ll study for your degree at Aston University while gaining hands on experience with the gas transmission network’s electrical systems.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • As an Engineering Degree Apprentice you’ll be based out of our Bristol office, whilst travelling to sites across the region to see major engineering projects in action
  • You’ll study for your degree at Aston University while gaining hands on experience with the gas transmission network’s electrical systems
  • Throughout your apprenticeship, you’ll build a wide range of skills, from technical engineering knowledge to project management, planning, problem solving and communication

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Ensure the control, within own area of responsibility, of major accident hazards, health & safety, to statutory, mandatory and environmental standards.
  • Ensure that targets are met and maintained, within own area of responsibility, whilst complying with defined company procedures and legislative requirements
  • Prepare for and perform process/plant engineering tasks using the appropriate techniques, procedures and methods
  • Support the evaluation, submission, planning, installation and commissioning of capital, maintenance and revenue projects to improve process performance
  • Work autonomously to analyse, interpret and evaluate engineering data, presenting the results and problem solving approach clearly and concisely in written and oral form, using technology where appropriate to assist with and evaluate activies
  • Apply continuous improvement techniques and support existing manufacturing principles to drive effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Manage and/or support the introduction of new technologies and practices
  • Use creative thinking and problem solving to challenge assumptions, innovate, make new proposals and build on existing ideas.
  • Plan and prioritise process/plant tasks using project planning tools, review and evaluate progress against objectives and investigate alternative scenarios

Other requirements

  • Our sites are located across the UK, so you’ll need to be comfortable with travel and overnight stays. This means that you’ll need to have a driving license by the time you would be joining us (September 2026!).
  • You'll need to have permanent right to work in the UK for the entirety of this programme, as we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role.
  • As you’ll be working on Critical National Infrastructure, you’ll also need to pass enhanced National Security Vetting, meaning you’ll need to be able to provide a 5-year UK address history. Your eligibility for certain roles may be affected by your place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and any residency you hold or have held.
