Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
From day one we will be teaching you the skills you require to prepare accounts and eventually tax computations from data provided by our clients. We will start with the basics and as your skills grow, we will introduce you to new aspects and your responsibilities will increase. Your work will include:

- Problem solving and checking it all makes sense.

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Record transactional data.
- Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
- Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
- Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
- Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
- Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
- Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Training schedule
Formal training is delivered at HWGTA, located on Holmer Road, Hereford HR4 9SX.
You will receive training one day per week, which is a combination of face-to-face and remote, as per your assigned training plan.
Additional training for functional skills in English and maths will be undertaken if needed.
You will receive monthly visits from your assigned Learning and Development Specialist, who will set you work, monitor your development and wellbeing, and discuss training sessions. They will also prepare you for your End Point Assessment to gain your Accounts/ Finance Assistant Level 2 qualification.

There is also a five-day teambuilding residential trip that is held in the spring of each year offered to all apprentices on programme.

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- English (grade A*-C/ 4-9)
- Maths (grade A*-C/ 4-9)
Desirable qualifications
A Level in:
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements
Location is just north of Hereford, so the candidate would ideally need to drive.
