Summary

You will gain hands on experience in site operations, building repairs and maintenance across our campus at Brackley. You will work within a fast-paced environment, responding to facilities and maintenance repairs, supported by our team of Facilities Maintenance Technicians.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

You will learn how to:

  • Plan and prepare maintenance work
  • Create and maintain a safe working environment
  • Select and use correct tools, equipment and materials for a range of maintenance tasks
  • Carry out a range of facilities maintenance tasks including minor plumbing repairs, minor electrical repairs, carpentry and joinery, painting, flooring repairs and ceiling repairs
  • Use digital communication methods to record, report and update information relating to jobs, communicate with colleagues and stakeholders whilst providing a high level of customer service
  • Understand how buildings are constructed and maintained, how internal systems operate and how to work in a way that reduces waste and environmental impact

Key skills & duties include:

  • Carry out routine and reactive maintenance tasks
  • Complete minor repairs to walls, doors, windows, fixtures and fittings
  • Assist with basic plumbing work, including clearing blockages and replacing small fixtures and fittings
  • Carry out general building maintenance tasks such as carpentry, painting, decorating, flooring repairs and ceiling repairs
  • Use and maintain hand tools and power tools ensuring they are operated safely and correctly
  • Follow health and safety processes and procedures at all times
  • Prepare and maintain work areas to ensure safety and tidiness before, during and after tasks
  • Work closely with colleagues, managers and other stakeholders
  • Maintain a high level of customer service and behave in a professional manner at all times
  • Identify when to ask for help or escalate issues or jobs to your manager
  • Check own work to ensure it is carried out to a high standard and meets expected quality standards

  • Customer Service: Apply a range of customer service skills in order to provide a professional, accurate, timely, ethical and non-judgemental front line service which meets the needs of a diverse range of customers and stakeholders
  • Communication: Demonstrate appropriate communication skills to enable timely identification and/or resolution of issues for customers and appropriate signposting to other colleagues and/or partner agencies.
  • Collaborative working: Work collaboratively with colleagues and partners to achieve individual, team and business targets.
  • Respond to vulnerability: Use skill and judgment to understand the needs of vulnerable individuals and groups(including those with complex needs) and respond appropriately
  • Information collection and sharing: Use a variety of methods to identify, collect and communicate technical and other information in a confident and effective manner.
  • Influencing and negotiating skills: Influence and negotiate with customers, partners and suppliers.
  • Self Management: Organise and plan their own work to ensure tasks are completed and deadlines met.
  • Problem Solving: Use a problem solving and flexible approach in their day to day duties.
  • Tools and Equipment: Effective use of IT equipment and software, through administration and the appropriate use of work equipment
  • Decision making: Effective decision making in order to apply the businesses objectives and priorities.

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 5 and above)
  • Maths (grade 5 and above)
  • Science (grade 5 and above)
  • Two other GCSEs (grade 5 and above)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
