What you'll do at work

What you’ll be doing: As an apprentice, you’ll build real‑world skills, gain practical knowledge, and work closely with experienced colleagues who will support your development throughout the programme.

  • Data & Insights - Dive into real data! You’ll collect, clean, analyse, and visualise information to help shape big strategic decisions and track how the business is performing
  • Spotting Opportunities & Risks - Use both data and judgement to help assess new opportunities and potential risks; playing a part in shaping the future direction of Thames Water
  • Supporting Delivery - Help build and maintain implementation plans, track progress against key milestones, and make sure strategic projects stay on course
  • Trend & Market Research - Explore industry trends, new technologies, and broader societal changes - and assess how they could impact our long‑term strategy
  • Governance & Assurance - Produce accurate reports and contribute to data‑led assurance to support strong governance and risk management
  • Collaboration & Ways of Working - Work closely with the Strategy team to embed data‑driven thinking into planning, goal‑setting, and decision‑making
  • You’ll also take part in strategy communities of practice to share ideas and learn from others

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Use data systems securely to meet requirements and in line with organisational procedures and legislation including principles of Privacy by Design
  • implement the stages of the data analysis lifecycle
  • apply principles of data classification within data analysis activity
  • analyse data sets taking account of different data structures and database designs
  • assess the impact on user experience and domain context on data analysis activity
  • identify and escalate quality risks in data analysis with suggested mitigation or resolutions as appropriate
  • undertake customer requirements analysis and implement findings in data analytics planning and outputs
  • identify data sources and the risks and challenges to combination within data analysis activity
  • apply organizational architecture requirements to data analysis activities
  • apply statistical methodologies to data analysis tasks
  • apply predictive analytics in the collation and use of data
  • collaborate and communicate with a range of internal and external stakeholders using appropriate styles and behaviours to suit the audience
  • use a range of analytical techniques such as data mining, time series forecasting and modelling techniques to identify and predict trends and patterns in data
  • collate and interpret qualitative and quantitative data and convert into infographics, reports, tables, dashboards and graphs
  • select and apply the most appropriate data tools to achieve the optimum outcome

Training schedule

  • Knowledge, skills and behaviours as set out in the Level 4 Data Analyst standard
  • Earn EPAO: CABWI qualification
  • You’ll study with Firebrand through blended online learning and short residential blocks at their Wyboston Lakes centre (accommodation included)

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

Maths and English (grade 9-4 or A-C)

A Level in:

3x A-Levels or Level 3 qual (BTEC/Apprenticeship (grade Distinction/Merit/Pass/A-C)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
