Summary

Ascentant Accountancy are recruiting an apprentice accountant to assist in managing their client’s day to day accounting and finance requirements. Confidentiality, excellent organisational skills and accuracy are important for this position, as well as good client relations and the ability to communicate clearly.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Preparing, checking and processing bank payments
  • Checking and posting accounts payable invoices
  • Checking and posting accounts receivable invoices
  • Processing expenses, credit card statements and petty cash
  • Completing bank reconciliations
  • Ledger reconciliations
  • Running financial reports
  • Filing to support department
  • Assisting with onboarding new clients
  • Assisting with file reviews and compliance
  • Ordering stationary & supplies
  • Assistance with marketing admin

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
  • Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
  • Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
  • Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
  • Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
  • Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
  • Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
  • Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
  • Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Training schedule

The Level 3 Assistant Accountant apprenticeship standard includes 6 AAT exams, in addition to the Synoptic Assessment as part of the End-Point Assessment (EPA) process.

The knowledge units will be delivered at the EMA training hub in Derby, or online (depending on apprentices’ location) through day release.

AAT Modules are as follows:

  • Introduction to Bookkeeping (Level 2 Unit)
  • Principles of Bookkeeping (Level 2 Unit)
  • Management Accounting Techniques
  • Financial Accounting: Preparing Financial Statements
  • Business Awareness
  • Tax Processes for Business

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

GCSEs including Maths and English (grade 5/B or above)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

About this employer

Established in 2016, our Derby office supports the needs of Law Firms across the Country by providing Outsourced Legal Cashiering services and has recently started to grow its Accountancy client base in the City through its Startup Support programme, networking events and working with the University of Derby.
