Summary

As a CS&A Engineering Degree Apprentice at NUVIA, you’ll join a five‑year programme combining study with nuclear project experience. From day one you’ll support decommissioning, waste, defence and power projects, developing civil and structural design skills, earning while learning with mentoring throughout.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Your day-to-day tasks may include:

  • Applying engineering principles to support design, performance optimisation, and operational management
  • Conducting civil and structural design calculations and engineering substantiation
  • Producing technical documentation and drawings
  • Applying theoretical knowledge to real-world challenges
  • Ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards
  • Engaging with the supply chain
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
  • Developing digital engineering skills through a range of digital software

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Work competently in a technical nuclear environment, understand and promote personal responsibility for Health, Safety, Radiation Protection, Environmental Protection, Quality, Security, Safeguards and principles of Risk Management.
  • Apply their science or engineering discipline knowledge to the development, operation, maintenance and progression of technologies used for Decommissioning (e.g. remote handling and robotics), Waste Management, Reprocessing, and Nuclear Power Generation.
  • Accurately observe, record and draw conclusions from data and experimental evidence, recognising inherent uncertainties and limitations.
  • Apply design processes including materials selection that meet nuclear industry standards.
  • Apply the standards for nuclear professional practice as required by the industry and professional body institutions.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 5-9)
  • Maths (grade 5-9)

Desirable qualifications

A Level in:

Maths, Science, Engineering (grade A-C)

T Level in:

Engineering (grade Merit- Distinction*)

BTEC in:

Engineering (grade Merit- Distinction*)
