Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
· Assist in minimising loom downtime by supporting job changes, weft changes, piece felling and weaving, by working alongside tuners, weavers and twisters
· Learn to understand and interpret peg plans, drafts etc
· Learn weaving principles including set up, operating and monitoring
· Recognising faults, and how to respond to these quickly to avoid long running issues and troubleshooting
· Ensure fabric meets design, patterns and quality
· Assist and check lease bands, rods, warp sheets and ensure all ends are in the lease and warped to pattern
· Support setting up drawing in and knotting machines, ensuring correct picking needle size
· Maintain a safe working environment by strictly adhering to company Health & Safety rules and procedures
· Maintain high standards of housekeeping
· Assist with safe movement of materials and finished pieces

- Feed textile product components into the machine.
- Monitor manufacturing process; adjust parameters for example, speed, temperature.
- Conduct in-process production quality checks (roaming).

- Prepare output for next stage for example, label, package.
- Monitor own performance data.
- Collect and record information: text or data - paper based or electronic.
- Identify and segregate resources for reuse, recycling, and disposal.

Training schedule
You will be working daily with experienced technical experts in weaving, & twisting, whilst studying for your level 2 Textile Manufacturing operative qualification. Your training will include 2 days a month with your tutor, one day at Textile Centre of Excellence in Huddrsfield and the other on site at Abraham Moon & Sons Ltd
Course includes:
· Preparing for textile manufacturing operations
· Operating machinery and equipment following Standard Operational procedures (SOP)
· Complete Quality Assurance activities
· Prepare materials
· Contribute to maintaining the workplace environment (H&S)
· Conduct basic maintenance
· Complete work records
Requirements
Desirable qualifications
GCSE in:
