Summary

This is a rare opportunity to become part of the Derbyshire Constabulary "family" based at their Force Headquarters in Ripley. The purpose of these roles is to provide a customer-focused, effective and efficient administrative support to the regional forces.

£14,526.20 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Your duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Ordering of goods
  • Payment of supplier invoices
  • Raising of customers invoices
  • Cash receipting and banking entries
  • Processing of overtime & expenses
  • Reconciliation of accounts
  • General administration functions e.g. photocopying, scanning, filing and archiving
  • Use of Microsoft office Agresso Finance system

There may be an opportunity for the apprentice to work in Strategic Finance.

This work will include processing journals, Agresso system, administration duties, bank reconciliation, recharging of costs to other Forces enquiries and reporting using the finance system budget monitoring.

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Training schedule

  • An apprenticeship allows you to earn a wage, gain valuable work experience and industry specific competence
  • You will be expected to work towards the Accounts/Finance Assistant Level 2, with support from your employer and the Chesterfield College Group

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4/C or above)
  • Maths (grade 4/C or above)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements

Whilst not essential prior work experience in any type of role is preferred but not essential. 

This apprenticeship will not start until 7th September 2026. 

Once you have received a provisional offer of an apprenticeship, you will be required to undergo a full DBS background check before a formal offer can be made.

The apprenticeship placement is within a civilian role and not for Operational Police Officer roles.

After this apprenticeship

You will attain the Accounts/Finance Assistant occupational standard and Level 2 Functional Skills in maths & English (where applicable) upon successful completion of your apprenticeship.
