Summary
The role is based within the IT Team, forming part of the internal IT Operations department at our Mossfield Road site. This position is a front-line role, providing direct IT support to staff across the Don-Bur Group.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Installation and replacement of IT hardware and equipment across all Don-Bur Group sites
- Responding to and logging IT incidents and service requests via telephone, email and the IT Service Desk system
- Prioritising and escalating support calls where required
- Diagnosing and resolving hardware and software issues
- Ownership of incidents and service requests through to resolution
- Ensuring support calls are resolved within agreed service levels
- Providing clear and timely updates to users
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records within the IT Service Desk

- Apply tools and techniques when securely operating and testing networks.
- Install and configure network components.
- Implement tools and techniques to monitor, identify, analyse and record systems performance in line with defined specifications.
- Maintain security of the network against potential threats.
- Apply tools and or techniques to gather information to troubleshoot issues and or isolate, repair or escalate faults.
- Communicate outcomes of tasks and record actions in line with organisational procedures.
- Upgrade, apply and test components to systems configurations ensuring that the system meets the organisation’s requirements and minimises downtime.
- Interpret information and or specifications received from a manager, customer or technical specialist and accurately implement the defined requirements.
- Implement techniques to optimise systems or component performance in line with defined specifications.
- Apply the required level of responsibility when organising and prioritising work tasks, clients’ or stakeholders’ requests in line with SLAs and organisation processes.
- Explain their job role within the business context to stakeholders to enable a clear understanding on both sides of what their remit is and convey technical constraints.
- Operate securely, and apply process, policies and legislation within their business responsibilities.
- Configure and maintain network addressing in line with customer requirements.
- Ensure compliance of network engineering outputs with change management processes including Secure Access Service Edge SASE or Zero-trust networking .

Training schedule
You will be expected to undertake an apprenticeship programme alongside your employment and continue professional development during this time.
This may include training in areas such as:
- Level 4 Network Engineer or infrastructure-focused apprenticeship pathways
- Vendor certifications (e.g. Cisco CCNA or equivalent)
- Cyber security fundamentals and modern security practices
- Microsoft infrastructure, cloud and security technologies, including the Microsoft 365 and security platform

Qualifications / Experience
- A foundation level of IT support knowledge, ideally equivalent to a completed Level 3 IT apprenticeship or relevant commercial experience
- Experience working within an IT Service Desk environment that follows ITIL best practice
- The ability to communicate effectively with users at all levels
- A proactive and professional approach to IT support
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience using Service Desk systems (e.g. NinjaOne or similar)
Technical experience should include:
- Windows 11
- Microsoft Office
- Microsoft 365
- Active Directory (user and computer management)
- Basic networking concepts (IP addressing, DNS, DHCP)
- Wi-Fi connectivity and troubleshooting
- Printing solutions
- PC / laptop hardware and peripherals
