Summary

The role will involve working collaboratively with teachers as part of a professional team to support teaching and learning. It will include providing specialist assistance to pupils who require additional support to overcome barriers to learning, as well as supporting other staff under the supervision of the classroom teacher.

Wage

£13,741 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

£7.55 per hour. Please note this will increase to £8 in April 2026. The wage will also be adjusted to the NMW for your age after the first year.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Responsibilities:

  • Implement planned learning activities and teaching programmes as agreed with the teacher.
  • Adapt learning activities in response to pupils’ needs to ensure effective learning outcomes.
  • Contribute to the planning and evaluation of learning activities, providing feedback on pupil progress and behaviour.
  • Support the monitoring, assessment, and recording of pupil progress and activities.
  • Provide feedback to pupils on their attainment and progress under the guidance of the teacher.
  • Support learning by preparing and providing resources for lessons and activities as directed by the teacher.
  • Liaise with other staff and share relevant information about pupils when appropriate.
  • Understand and support pupils with special educational needs.
  • Assist in supporting volunteers and other learning support staff within the classroom.

 

Experience and skills required include:

  • High levels of literacy, numeracy and computer skills (Will have GCSE grade C and above
    (Or equivalent) English and Maths.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality
  • The ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
  • A positive attitude, demonstrating flexibility and good-humour

Training schedule

  • Apprenticeship Level: Level 3 Teaching Assistant SEND  Apprenticeship
  • Expected Duration: 16 months
  • Training: All learning will be delivered online alongside full-time placement at the school.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

Maths and English (grade 4)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
