Summary

Join us as a Housing and Property Management Apprentice and learn how to support residents, manage tenancies and help keep homes safe and well‑run. You’ll gain hands‑on experience, build essential housing skills and start a meaningful career improving services for local communities.

What you'll do at work

Housing Services and Resident Engagement

  • Tenancy Management: Support tenancy sustainment activities, welfare checks, and resolve low-level issues
  • Income Management: Provide basic information on rent and service charges, support income recovery processes, and signpost residents to financial advice
  • Leasehold Management: Assist with leaseholder enquiries, support Section 20 consultation processes, and maintain accurate records of service charges and major works
  • Resident Engagement: Help organise and attend resident meetings, walkabouts, and events; record feedback and actions
  • Estate Operations: Monitor cleaning and grounds maintenance standards, support estate inspections, report defects and hazards, and liaise with contractors

Assets, Standards and Investment

Repairs: Raise and track routine repairs, support monitoring of repairs contractors, assist with compliance checks for major works, and maintain accurate records of repairs and contractor performance

Housing Needs

  • Allocations & Lettings: Assist with housing applications, tenancy sign-ups, and maintain accurate records
  • Homelessness Prevention: Schedule appointments, prepare case documentation, and signpost residents to support services
  • Sheltered / Supported Housing: Support welfare checks and activities that promote independence and wellbeing
  • Private Sector Housing: Assist with HMO licensing administration, schedule inspections, prepare documentation, and maintain compliance records; signpost tenants and landlords to advice services

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Customer Service: Apply a range of customer service skills in order to provide a professional, accurate, timely, ethical and non-judgemental front line service which meets the needs of a diverse range of customers and stakeholders
  • Communication: Demonstrate appropriate communication skills to enable timely identification and/or resolution of issues for customers and appropriate signposting to other colleagues and/or partner agencies.
  • Collaborative working: Work collaboratively with colleagues and partners to achieve individual, team and business targets.
  • Respond to vulnerability: Use skill and judgment to understand the needs of vulnerable individuals and groups(including those with complex needs) and respond appropriately
  • Information collection and sharing: Use a variety of methods to identify, collect and communicate technical and other information in a confident and effective manner.
  • Influencing and negotiating skills: Influence and negotiate with customers, partners and suppliers.
  • Self Management: Organise and plan their own work to ensure tasks are completed and deadlines met.
  • Problem Solving: Use a problem solving and flexible approach in their day to day duties.
  • Tools and Equipment: Effective use of IT equipment and software, through administration and the appropriate use of work equipment
  • Decision making: Effective decision making in order to apply the businesses objectives and priorities.

Training schedule

The Apprentice will work across the directorate, supporting different teams while actively applying the skills they learn through the apprenticeship standard. As part of the programme, 20% of their working hours will be dedicated to off‑the‑job learning, ensuring they have protected time to study, develop and build confidence. We will make sure the successful candidate experiences all key areas of the apprenticeship, giving them the opportunity to practise their new skills in real situations and gain meaningful, hands‑on experience across the service.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • Maths (grade 4)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
