Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
Working under the direction of the Trust Site Manager, you will support with:
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene across the site
- Carrying out routine compliance checks and safety monitoring using Trust systems
- Reporting defects and contributing to the safe management of buildings and grounds
- Assisting with minor maintenance, repairs and improvement tasks
- Ensuring equipment and cleaning materials are used and stored safely (COSHH compliant)
- Helping ensure the school environment is safe, secure and well presented for all users
You will receive full training in all aspects of the role, including safe manual handling, working at height (where appropriate), and operational procedures.

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Supervise the facilities management function.
- Comply with health and safety regulations, building regulations, codes of practice and organisational policies and procedures.
- Comply with risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work and apply control measures.
- Supervise others when using facilities management environment tools and equipment for example, plant, machinery, electrical equipment, manual tools.
- Apply sustainable processes and practices, monitoring and solving sustainability problems which impact climate change in the facilities management function within their organisation.
- Use resources to complete tasks, with consideration for cost, quality, safety, security and environmental impact.
- Lead a team of facilities personnel.
- Apply problem solving techniques to create solutions to complex problems within limits of authority within own role and consult line management.
- Plan, prioritise and delegate tasks to the facilities team for completion.
- Use information and digital technology to analyse data to monitor performance.
- Create, maintain and enhance collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Communicate verbally with internal and external stakeholders Give and receive information. Matching style to audience. Recognising barriers in communication and how to overcome them. Facilities terminology.
- Investigate queries to find underlying cause and identify potential solutions.
- Apply financial management principles in department budget spending.

The apprenticeship is delivered by an established training provider with extensive experience in supporting learners in facilities and estates roles. Training is structured through a blend of online group workshops, one‑to‑one tutorials and guided activities, ensuring regular support throughout the 18‑month programme.
Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- English (grade 4 or above)
- Maths (grade 4 or above)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

After this apprenticeship
The apprenticeship provides a platform for progression across the Trust’s Estates Team. After achieving the Level 3 qualification, you may progress into roles such as Site Operative, Facilities Coordinator, Site Supervisor, or other Estates/Compliance‑focused posts, subject to vacancies.
