The successful candidate would be primarily based/working out of our Head Office in Croydon working Monday - Friday, 09:00 - 17:30 hours, however, there will be times where you will be required to put in extra hours.

What you'll do at work
We invite applicants to apply for a position to join our Mechanical Contracts Team within our Head Office in Croydon. To be part of a team involved in the Design, Construction and Management of Mechanical Building Services Installations within London. Qualified professionals are needed to ensure projects are completed on time and meet diverse demands. This industry impacts our daily lives in numerous ways, making it an exciting field to be a part of. The training at our head office and sites will develop technical engineering and management skills generally as below.
Engineering skills:
- An understanding of Building services engineering installation methods & principles
- Support & contribute to the production of Construction drawings and technical submissions
- Review of mechanical specifications & schedules
- Operate computer-based software packages, such as CAD, ASTA, Word, Excel, Revit
- Building sustainability
Management skills:
- Programming and managing installation works

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Apply appropriate building services engineering principles, techniques, and methods, including mathematical, scientific, and technical know-how, to building services engineering and the construction or manufacturing process
- Apply key principles, techniques and methods of data and technical information collection, analysis and evaluation to support the delivery of building services engineering models (such as Building Information Modelling), designs, and technical solutions
- Operate computer-based software packages, such as Computer Aided Design (CAD) or modelling software (Revit) to produce and present technical information and documentation with relevant conventions and engineering terminology
- Apply statutory health, safety and welfare policies, procedures, and regulations in the building services engineering environment, using risk management processes, procedures, and documentation
- Support and contribute to the production or modification of building services engineering technical solutions in accordance with relevant industry standards, procedures, codes of practice, regulations, and legislation, such as the Building Safety legislation.
- Apply principles of sustainable development, including those relating to United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG), environmental policies and legislations in building services engineering projects, recognising the need to reduce carbon use, lower emissions, and wider sustainability
- Plan, carry out and manage own work in line with quality assurance systems and processes, recognising the wider implications to customer needs, and within cost and resource limitations
- Consider equality, diversity, and inclusion in the delivery of building services engineering projects
- Apply document control processes and procedures using the approved processes, maintaining quality compliance when creating or amending engineering documentation
- Communicate using appropriate methods for the audience, and incorporate relevant and appropriate terms, standards, and data
- Apply ethical principles to building services engineering projects, including the secure use of data and information
- Plan, undertake and review their own professional competence, regularly updating and reviewing their CPD to improve performance

Training schedule
- The apprenticeship is split between training in the Head Office or within London at various sites (within Zone 1-6) and City of Westminster College (CWC)
- As well as working at Mechanical Services Ltd, you will also study for a Level 3 Building Services Engineering Technician Apprenticeship
- You will be given time during the week to study, and attendance at college and the timely completion of assignments are a compulsory part of your job role

The apprentice will be on day release at City of Westminster College based at Paddington Campus
Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- English (grade C or above)
- Maths (grade C or above)
Desirable qualifications
GCSE in:
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements
- Ease of commute to our Head Office in Croydon, Surrey is a consideration as this will be the primary base and the successful candidate would not be expected to have a commute of more than 45 minutes

Mechanical Services Limited is an Employee Owned small to medium sized business that has been running for over 40 years. MSL undertakes mechanical & electrical building services installations in various sectors of the construction industry.
MSL is a family run company of approximately 100 employees consisting of plumbers, electricians, site management, office admin and project management personnel.
The head office is based on the Purely Way in Croydon, with projects predominately based on construction sites in Central London.
MSL has an excellent track record of employing apprentices on building services engineering courses for over 30 years.
