Summary

Motor Parts Direct is seeking a proactive and hands-on Apprentice to join our dynamic IT Service Desk. With a network of over 184 branches and 16 distribution centers, our IT team is the backbone of the company. In this role, you will be the "go-to" person for hardware and workspace technology.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Key Responsibilities:

  • First-Line Support: Act as the friendly first point of contact for colleagues experiencing technical issues via phone and email
  • Hardware Setup: Assist with unboxing, setting up, and deploying new laptops, desktops, and mobile devices for staff
  • Troubleshooting: Learn to diagnose and fix common faults with printers, screens, and computer accessories
  • User Accounts: Learn to administer user access and passwords using Microsoft 365 and Active Directory
  • Connectivity: Assist the team in checking basic network equipment (routers/Wi-Fi) to ensure branches stay connected
  • Asset Management: Help track our IT equipment and ensure the workshop is organised

Required Qualifications/Skills (The Essentials):

  • A passion for technology: You genuinely enjoy using computers and are curious about how they work
  • Communication: You can speak clearly and politely to colleagues who might be stressed about a technical problem
  • Basic Digital Literacy: Comfortable using Microsoft Windows and standard Office apps (Word/Excel)
  • Reliability: Punctual, organised, and ready to learn
  • Problem Solving: You enjoy fixing things and have a "can-do" attitude

Preferred Qualifications/Skills (Nice to have, not required):

  • Experience fixing your own PC, gaming console, or family member’s laptop
  • Any previous exposure to Microsoft 365 or Windows 10/11 settings

  • Use a range of Cabling or Connectors equipment in line with technical requirements for example physically or remotely
  • Test and evaluate network environments
  • Monitor performance and usage of a network

  • Apply necessary security measures, in line with access requirements to a network
  • Carry out routine maintenance across network systems, ensuring organisational compliance
  • Monitor network-related workloads including DNS and firewalls
  • Install or undertake basic upgrades, either physically or remotely
  • Establish digital communication or telecommunications systems through, for example cabling and connecting equipment.
  • Identify a range of tools and or diagnostic equipment, for example, Hardware or Software components, to resolve Communications or Telecommunications requirements.
  • Undertake basic telecommunications activities, in response to an allocated task, designated responsibilities, instructions or customer’s requirements.
