Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Working under the guidance of SLT (Senior Leadership Team) and colleagues, in order to support and extend the children’s learning.

  • Provide general support to the class teacher in the management and organisation of the pupils' resources and the classroom
  • Contribute to the management of pupils' behaviour and reinforcing agreed policies and procedures whilst being an effective role model for pupil behaviour
  • Enable access to learning for all pupils and help to encourage children’s development, independence, self-reliance, initiative and problem-solving skills
  • Deliver work, care or support programmes to individual pupils or groups, including those with special educational needs
  • Support in the development of other key skills which aid pupils’ learning, e.g. Numeracy, Literacy
  • Help translate tasks at pupil level by restructuring them into achievable steps
  • Observing children’s activities and contributing to their written records
  • Take appropriate action related to any problems or emergencies that occur during the sessions in accordance with the school’s policies and procedures
  • Provide admin and general organisation support when required to do so
  • Recognise confidentiality, safeguarding procedures, H & S and the policies of the Governing Body

  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

Training schedule

  • Teaching Assistant Level 3
  • This will take place at home, the workplace or Twickenham Training Centre
  • This will be one day per week

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • Maths (grade 4)
