Summary
This apprenticeship has been designed as a 3-year journey with placements adding to the development of each apprentice. The knowledge learnt at college is consolidated during multiple work placements designed to create a structured environment for the apprentice to develop skills and behaviours and put into practice the topics you've learnt.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
From year 2 you will rotate around the mechanical engineering groups across our product divisions where you will learn how parts are designed and developed ready for production. These placements allow you to work on real projects and products and you will get the opportunity to utilise the skills gained in year two.
In addition you will learn:
- Designing parts using computer aided design (CAD)
- Problem solving
- Material selection
- Prototyping
- Development testing
- Design and build of test or assembly equipment
- Product support activities:
Our products are used in many different industries, such as automotive, aerospace and consumer electronics. These placements allow you to experience how our products are used, supporting our customers, and coming up with innovative solutions to their manufacturing and inspection requirements. Some of the activities you are likely to encounter include:
- Customer support and training
- Product testing
- Working with our sales subsidiaries
- Customer-based projects

Training schedule
Year one is based at GET in Gloucester. For the remainder of the apprenticeship, placements will be based across three of our Gloucestershire sites in Stonehouse, Woodchester and Wotton-Under-Edge.
What qualification will I achieve?
- Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (foundation competence) – PEO
- Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (development knowledge) – Technical Certificate
- Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering – Technical Support Technician (development competence) – NVQ

Following the completion of the apprenticeship you will transfer off the scheme into a role and division within Renishaw where there will be continued improvement and development of your skills and knowledge.
For the right candidates, continued study towards higher or degree apprenticeships is supported where relevant. Achieving merits and distinctions during the Level 3 modules will be a requirement for progression.
