Day to day you will develop your skills and experience to enable you to assist in the installation of telecommunications sites, adopting a customer-focused approach to our clients and their representatives. Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Carry out installation activities on towers, roofs and hard-to-reach places, observing all safety measures, using all necessary personal protective equipment and techniques for working at height.
  • Carry out the maintenance on telecommunication sites, as well as troubleshoot and repair these sites when required including new site builds, or technology upgrades.
  • Attend pre-start meetings, surveys, MSVs, supervisory visits, and audits
  • Have responsibility for the relevant materials, vehicles, and equipment necessary for the completion of a site.
  • Ensure all work is in accordance with organisation policies and procedures, including Health and Safety policies.
  • As part of your Apprenticeship, you will be enrolled onto the Level 4 CNFE - Cellular network field engineer apprenticeship qualification with one of our training partners.

  • Compile and verify a construction phase plan (CPP)
  • Conduct, produce and write a risk assessment and method statement at site level
  • Recognise, record and monitor risks, escalating to relevant personnel
  • Comply with health and safety regulations
  • Identify and use personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Comply with electrical regulations
  • Delegate and assign tasks according to scope of works and specific skillset and Health and safety
  • Conduct site surveys to meet client’s installation criteria
  • Review and compile information to produce handover pack
  • Select, implement and evaluate control measures
  • Install electrical systems
  • Inspect and test electrical systems
  • Isolate electrical circuits
  • Maintain cell site apparatus
  • Find faults and repair cell site apparatus
  • Decommission cell site apparatus
  • Commission and conduct integration testing on Base Station Sub-System (BSS)
  • Select and use work restraint, work positioning, and fall arrest equipment
  • Climb site towers
  • Use lifting and lowering techniques using slings, knots and attachments
  • Select and use tools and equipment when working at ground level and at height
  • Conduct tower rescue and casualty management
  • Apply sustainable principles and low carbon processes to implement site environmental solutions and disposal of waste
  • Apply equity, diversity and inclusion principles
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders using sector specific terminology through written or verbal means
  • Interpret design drawings
  • Use Radio Frequency (RF) monitor
  • Conduct site inspections

Training schedule

As part of your Apprenticeship, you will be enrolled onto the Level 4 CNFE - Cellular network field engineer apprenticeship qualification with one of our training partners. You will be fully supported through a variety of methods such as classroom or remotely taught sessions, learning materials, and one-to-one support from your tutor or coach. They will also meet regularly with you and your line manager to ensure you are progressing through your programme.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

incl English and Maths (grade 2 x grade 9-4/A*-C)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
