Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Post cash receipts daily and reconcile payments across client ledgers
- Process credit card transactions and deposit cheques at the bank
- Support credit control and revenue functions, including handling queries
- Assist with month-end reporting and maintain data in the Practice Management System (Iris PE)
- Help with expenses processing and ensure timely payments
- Contribute to balance sheet and client account reconciliations
- Enter new staff details and update data in the system
- Support the accounts receivable process, including sending bills and reminders
- Update currency exchange rates and assist with timesheet postings
- Provide general administrative support, including handling post and banking tasks
- Take meeting minutes and help coordinate team schedules
- Ensure that ICAEW Clients’ Account Rules are followed

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
- Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
- Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
- Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
- Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
- Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
- Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
- Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
- Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
- Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Training schedule
In addition to providing daily, flexible, proactive support to the Finance Team, contributing to the efficiency of the team and services provided to the firm you will study towards the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Level 3 and Level 4 qualification under a structured apprenticeship programme, building not only on your technical skills, but also on your personal and professional development.
Studying towards this professional qualification, as well as learning from our team of specialists on a daily basis, ensures you are well equipped with the knowledge to help advance you through your career. Training consists of a combination of courses at the tutors’ offices, private study and regular exams, as well as on-the-job training.

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:

- Maths (grade 6/B)
A Level in:
