Summary

We are looking for a flexible apprentice outdoor educator who will learn to plan, deliver and assess Maths and English Functional Skills lessons innovatively. We are looking for someone who can demonstrate a practical, creative approach to teaching Maths and English, in alignment with our outdoor education ethos.

£24,971 a year

Term Time 40 wks per annum FE pay scale: Unqualified education role: £7.55 p/h (apprenticeship rate) to £13.69 p/h NLW & relevant qualification dependent Salary increase on successful qualification to Level 5 payscale currently set at £14.42.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Plan, deliver, evaluate and assess Maths and English lessons,
demonstrating a creative and practical approach linked to our outdoor
education ethos and land based/animal care vocational qualifications
• Complete Pearsons Functional skills assessments and paperwork to
ensure young people are gaining correct qualifications
• Complete reports once a term detailing young people’s progress to send to caregivers
• Lead at least one activity club session a week
• Support lunch cover as needed.
• Support other curriculum areas if needed, for cover purposes.
• Commence and complete L5 education and training qualification to begin leading education sessions covering Maths & English. These sessions can be via a small education group or 1:1 according to curriculum.
• Lead and or support Re-engagement/ADO Fusion/external clients 1:1 or group work with service users during term days
• Potential to agency cover the school staff where required

  • Demonstrate through their teaching the wider context (policy, economic, societal, technological, legal, cultural and environmental) of the subject, recognising the implications for professional practice

  • Identify and set outcomes to enable each learner to achieve or exceed targets
  • Provide ongoing learner feedback

Term Time Monday online training with training provider

Practical training will be on the apprenticeship for the remaining hours of the post per week

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade Level 2 FS /GCSE C/4 or above)
  • Maths (grade Level 2 FS /GCSE C/4 or above)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements

Desirable: • Experience of working with young people with additional needs / social emotional and mental health needs. In addition to the apprenticeship course, other CPD courses may be identified as you progress in the role and animal/equine handling training to aid engagement and build the therapeutic offering and service user/client relationship as required. Please note: We undertake safeguarding checks on all our workers in accordance with our policies and the DfE statutory guidance 'Keeping Children Safe in Education'. As part of these checks, we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in our therapy provision. If you do not have a valid subscription to the DBS Update Service, we will require you to complete a new online portal DBS application as part of the registration process, at a cost to the employee and maintain the subscription to the update service annually.
