Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Supporting teachers in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons
- Working one-to-one and in small groups with pupils, particularly those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
- Assisting with the preparation and organisation of learning materials and resources
- Encouraging positive behaviour and promoting our school’s Christian values
- Supporting children at playtimes and lunchtimes, encouraging active and inclusive play
- Contributing to record-keeping and tracking progress, under supervision
- Ensuring all pupils have equal access to learning and feel safe and supported

- Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
- Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
- Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
- Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.

Training schedule
- Your training will be provided in the workplace with monthly support from your vocational coach, who will either visit you on site to observe your practice and develop your knowledge, skills and behaviours, or meet you via teams link for teaching and discussion
- The programme of learning is a blend of theory and hands on practical experiences with access to an e portfolio and on line Learning Hub with a wealth of resources
More training information
- Your training will be provided by Aire Vocational Training, part of the Aspiration Training Group, specialising in Teaching Assistants and the Early Years
- Our tutors are experienced and knowledgeable with a passion for supporting the education and development of children
- You will be on programme for around 18 months (15 months practical teaching and up to 3 months for end point assessment)and throughout your training you will be supported to prepare for the Apprenticeship Assessment which will be conducted by an external assessment organisation and will include an observation of practice in school and a professional discussion underpinned by a showcase porfolio of evidence

GCSE in:

Other requirements
Applicants will need to pass a DBS check Occasional evening or weekend attendance at events It is desirable but not essential to have GCSE maths and English Grades 4/C or above or equivalent. Most importantly the successful candidate will have • a calm, caring, sensitive nature with a good sense of humour • previous experience working with children within a school environment • the ability to communicate well, with good interpersonal and organisational skills • a professional manner at all times • willing to contribute ideas and share good practice • committed, enthusiastic, professional and able to work as part of a team • have a commitment to continuing professional development • support the Christian Ethos, vision and values of the school

After this apprenticeship
- This position is temporary in the first instance. Achievement of the teaching assistant apprenticeship may offer opportunities to take up a range of positions in education inclusding one to one roles supporting children with additional needs
- You may progress to the Level 5 Specialist Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship following a SEND pathway
