Summary

As part of our busy mat-making department, you’ll help produce both standard and bespoke mats from our wide range of floor coverings and sports surfaces. Working alongside experienced colleagues, you’ll operate a variety of machinery, assist with custom logo designs, and make sure each order meets our customers’ exact requirements.

£24,000 a year

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Learning to operate all mat-making equipment, including CNC, Samco press, guillotine, hot melt press, sewing and edging machines
  • Assisting with the design and production of bespoke logo mats, including artwork, CAD design and customer approvals
  • Liaising with Customer Services to meet production schedules and delivery commitments
  • Cutting and preparing materials to precise measurements and specifications
  • Picking and allocating stock to ensure materials are ready for production
  • Assisting in managing raw material stock and ordering supplies as needed
  • Performing basic maintenance on machinery and tools
  • Operating a forklift truck to move rolls and pallets (training provided if required)
  • Keeping your work area clean, tidy and safe
  • Supporting other departments and contributing to continuous improvement projects

  • Feed textile product components into the machine.
  • Monitor manufacturing process; adjust parameters for example, speed, temperature.
  • Conduct in-process production quality checks (roaming).
  • Conduct final inspection quality checks.
  • Prepare output for next stage for example, label, package.
  • Monitor own performance data.
  • Collect and record information: text or data - paper based or electronic.
  • Identify and segregate resources for reuse, recycling, and disposal.
  • Follow basic maintenance procedures for example, clean, oil and lubricate machinery.
  • Identify and resolve common faults and issues.
  • Escalate issues.
  • Identify opportunity for continuous improvement.
  • Use information technology and digital systems. Comply with cyber security.

Desirable qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • Maths (grade 4)
