Summary
This role is designed as a developmental pathway. You’ll receive mentoring from senior finance colleagues and have opportunities to shadow across functions. As you progress, you’ll build a comprehensive understanding of how finance supports curriculum delivery, student experience, and strategic planning.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
Purchase Ledger:
- Process supplier invoices, and credit notes, reconcile supplier statements.
- Match purchase orders to invoices and resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain supplier records and support month-end accruals.
- Assist with payment runs and remittance advice distribution.
Sales Ledger:
- Raise invoices/credit notes for tuition fees, commercial activities, and other income streams.
- Monitor aged debt and support credit control processes.
- Reconcile income received via bank, cash, and card payments.
- Liaise with curriculum and commercial teams to ensure accurate billing.
- Setting up/Maintaining customer accounts
Cashbook:
- Post and reconcile bank transactions daily.
- Assist with college card reconciliations.
Other Responsibilities
- Processing the post, ensuring documents are scanned and sent to the relevant people
- To keep up to date with all college’s policies and procedures, new legislation and any mandatory training.
- To maintain confidentiality, understand data protection and ensure all documents are stored securely in line with GDPR and college’s policy.

- Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
- Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
- Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
- Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
- Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
- Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
- Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
- Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
- Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
- Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Training schedule
This programme is delivered via a day release delivery model, which means that one day per week, your attendance is required at our Derby Road campus(NG18). This attendance is required during term time only.
You will work with expert assessors and tutors to develop new knowledge, skills and behaviours within the profession.
You will experience a blended learning model.

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
