Summary

Our apprenticeship scheme provides students with the knowledge and training they need to pursue a career in engineering. At Progressive Technology, the first year of the apprenticeship will be spent in our purpose-built training academy, with full support provided by our Apprentice Training Manager and fulltime Apprentice Trainers.

£15,704 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

For the first year of the apprenticeship the working hours will be: Monday - Friday, 8am to 4.30pm From the second year of the apprenticeship, as long as the employee is over 18, this will be: Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

You will learn basic machining and hand fitting skills, progressing onto basic CNC machining through a series of supervised machining tasks, you will manufacture number of engineering tools and components.

In your first year, you will work on a variety of machines in the training academy including:

  • Centre Lathes
  • Vertical Milling Machines
  • Surface Grinding
  • CNC Lathe
  • CNC 3-Axis & 5-Axis Milling Machines
  • CAD / CAM Training

In addition to the hands-on machining training listed above, you will also receive monthly academic classroom-based training.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

Desirable qualifications

A Level in:

Maths (grade 5)

After this apprenticeship

Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship 3 Years:

After the successful completion of your first year Level 2 qualification, you will have the opportunity to progress to Level 3 for years 2 & 3 You will transfer from the Academy to the main manufacturing facility, where you will continue to develop your skills working in various departments throughout the factory.

 

Technician Engineering Apprenticeship 4 Years:

After your first year at Level 3, you will transfer from the Academy to the main manufacturing facility where you will continue your level 3 for year 2, developing your skills by working in various departments throughout the factory.

After the successful completion of your Level 3 qualification, you will continue to develop your skills and education progressing to Level 4 HNC qualification in years 3 & 4.
